Shoes For Her Feet
As we serve meals to our friends at 320 North Street every Saturday in Daytona Beach, I meet women from all walks of life, and every now and then I’m able to connect with them, look them in the eyes and smile. Some choose to not look up for fear of being judged, but when they do lift their head they meet love – A love that points no fingers; a love that says you are welcome here.
I’ve had the privilege of talking with some of them, learn their names, give them hugs, and let them know we care. Some have even asked for prayer. Others are involved in harmful relationships. One left an abusive boyfriend that left her without shoes or a change of clothes as she fled for her safety.
I am thankful to God for those who donate clothing and shoes, for she was able to get what she needed.
Since we began serving meals to our friends I have had a continual desire to provide housing for these women, especially those who are looking to get out of their destructive relationships and lifestyles. A home that provides Safety and Hope, so that when they come to us for help, we’ll be prepared to care for them, by providing safe housing, and help lead them on to a new path; a new journey, a new life.
I know without a doubt that this vision will become a reality, because with God, all things are possible.
It took two years with a vision for our age out foster girls and now with the generous support of others, we have Legacy House, a safe home that helps prevent homelessness, prostitution and trafficking, and I know we’ll soon be able to provide safe housing for the homeless women on the street.
We currently provide a campground for the homeless, and a vision for a housing community - Ponce Village.
