Ponce Church of St. Augustine along with her sister churches (Ponce Church in Ponce Inlet & Ormond Church) share the same vision: Helping others. Over sixteen years ago the Lord spoke to Pastor Nina’s husband Pastor Rick and asked him to open his Bible to Matthew 25. The Lord led him to verses 31-46 and said, “This is not a parable. This is not a story. This is going to take place one day. And in those verses Jesus speaks of his return and what he will be looking for in his people, his followers. King Jesus speaking, “…I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me something to drink, naked and you clothed me, sick and in prison and you visited me, a stranger and you took me in (homeless and you gave me shelter). If you’ve done it to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you’ve done it to me.” This is the foundation of which we pastor all three churches. In our first book The Main Thing is filled with Bible teachings including many verses that speak of love in action, good deeds and good works, and the role they play in the life of those who have chosen to believe in Jesus Christ and follow him. They are what God himself has “created us in Christ Jesus to do” in Ephesians 2:8-10 nlt.
Ponce Church of St. Augustine, Ponce Church in Ponce Inlet and Ormond Church endeavors to teach and equip others to live out the gospel as we see the early church in the book of Acts, “All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.” Acts 4:32-35 nlt. The scriptures also say that without this love, by helping others, our faith is dead. James 2.
The Legacy Housing Project is just one of the ways we reach out to the orphan. At Legacy House we provide a nurturing and stable home environment to equip young women aging out of the foster care system and to assist them to build their own life and bridge the gap between foster care and sustainable independence.
We understand that many young women aging out of foster care without a safe and solid support system are at high risk of sex trafficking, homelessness and incarceration. The Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council in 2010 stated that youth between the ages of 18-23 are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in Florida. In 2013 it is said that approximately 400 children in Florida will age out of the foster care system (Children’s Society of Florida).
Join us in becoming part of the solution by providing:
-Housing and Transportation
-Health and Wellness
It took two years with a vision for young women and we currently have our first home for age out foster girls in Ormond Beach (see our sister church OrmondChurch.net). We are preparing to launch both the new Augustine Church and our second Legacy House for these young women.
Pastor Nina Tidwell is Founder and Pastor of Ponce Church of St. Augustine is also the Director for Legacy House St. Augustine.
